Does the thought of getting together with people in your family send waves of anxiety through you?

Would you like to learn how to manage your emotional reaction to ________
(fill in the blank with a person or a situation!)

How would you complete these sentences?

  • Every time my family gets together _________________
  • My _____________always ______________
  • My _____________always _________________
  • It makes me feel ____________________
  • Growing up, I thought I was _____________
  • I wish __________________

I worked with a man recently whose family used shame and humiliation as discipline. He grew up having very little self-confidence, not surprisingly, in spite of having achieved quite a lot in his life.

He mentioned that several years earlier he had confronted his dad about saying things to him like “You will never amount to anything,” and “You are so lazy you stink.” His dad’s eyes had opened wide and he said, “I never said those things!”

As we tapped, my client suddenly realized that when his dad had spoken to him like that, he probably hadn’t even heard what he was saying, because probably his own dad had talked to him like that. But he himself had grown up thinking that he must be a bad person, that there must be something wrong with him.

For the first time it came to my client that those hurtful comments, that seemed to mean his dad didn’t really love him, weren’t really about him. This was a profound and heartfelt opening for him.

Your Family’s Beliefs Become Yours

Your family's particular “belief culture” gets handed down over the generations. It makes you see yourself in a certain way. It makes you think and feel and act in one of two directions: that either the world is out to get you, or that the world is a friendly place. Often it is the former, and over time we learn that thinking this way hurts. But we also end up thinking that it is our fault.

When the family gathers, all the old bugaboos are still there, just waiting to trigger all your same old reactions. My family is no different. We were one of those families where everything looks pretty good on the surface, and there was definitely love at the center, but between the center and the surface lay lots of distortion. The older we all get, the more the distortions are taking over, and holidays have become very difficult.

EFT to the Rescue!

I have developed an interesting game that utilizes EFT and your imagination. It will help you to totally transform an old belief that you may have picked up on the way into the world through your family, a belief that you can feel is caging your spirit now.

Remember those transformer toys? You could make a figure change from one manifestation of itself to another with step-by-step changes. Here is a description of one of the Transformers, Optimus Prime, who was able to transform from his regular self into a powerful force for good in the universe:

“Immensely kind and compassionate, Prime puts all his talent to use to improve the world around him, and has dedicated himself to the protection of all life, particularly the inhabitants of Earth; he will battle his foes with unyielding resolve to uphold this belief. In power and intelligence, Optimus Prime has no equal, known as one of the greatest heroes on both Cybertron and Earth.”

Now, I don’t particularly care for the notion that you can bring peace to the universe by killing off all the “bad guys,” like the Transformers intended to do. (Ummm...in Optimus Prime’s case he became a semi-trailer truck complete with a combat deck, a scout buggy, and a mystic talisman of leadership that was passed down through the ages...)

I do, however, love the metaphor of making step by step changes that transform one from feeling helpless, hopeless and worthless into a stand-up powerful being of compassionate, kind leadership.

The “Where Do I Stand?” Game

With this transformative “Where Do I Stand?” Game in our next teleclass, you will choose a limiting belief and take actual steps, using EFT, to change it into a belief that empowers rather than poisons you.

Wouldn’t it be useful to feel more like Optimus Prime (without the battle gear though!) than Elmer Fudd?

Trying to live through your old family beliefs has been making you sick and sad. Take this class to learn creative ways to use EFT to Stand Up for Yourself with a new sense of emotionally embodied peace.

After a recent teleclass, someone told me that she loved the handouts I created not only because they were very useful tools, but because it made her feel like I really was interested in helping her to use EFT better and change her life. She said she could see that I put a lot of effort into creating the handouts, and it was a sign to her that I cared. That is true!
When you sign up I will send you the EFT Treasure Hunt Game at no extra charge so you can play it on your own as often as you want to.
